as for the serious bit, i guess what will happen is change. even if you start out &quot;playing the part&quot; of an outgoing person, or whether you genuinely are one, it&#039;ll at least bring you into contact with new people. you blatantly won&#039;t be flying solo out there, i imagine you&#039;ll make a dozen new friends within the first few weeks. and if friends are what define you and the ones you&#039;ve always been with aren&#039;t there anymore, well, you&#039;ll be slightly different. i severely doubt you&#039;ll lose all sense of the identity you carried in the states, or anywhere close to it.
anyway, who cares?
